Port Facility Security Officer

Course Description
This course provides the knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO), as defined in the ISPS Code, and the US Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA). In particular the duties and responsibilities of a PFSO with respect to the security of a Port Facility for ensuring the development of a Port Facility Security Assessment and for implementing, maintaining and updating a Port Facility Security Plan.

This course will also prepare individuals for liaison with existing Ship Security Officers (SSOs) and Company Security Officers (CSOs).

Course Content

  • Understanding the ISPS Code
  • Assessment of security risks, threats and vulnerability
  • Developing, maintaining and supervising the implementation of a Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP)
  • Conducting inspections of the port  ensuring appropriate security measures are implemented and maintained
  • Ensuring that security equipment are properly operated and tested
  • Identifying weapons and improvised explosive devices
  • Security training, drills and exercises
